2001 to 2007 Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203 Rear Tail Light Bulb Replacement: Brake, Turn Signal, Reverse, and Parking Lights

This guide covers 2001 to 2007 Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203 sedans. Check the bulb type for your model year before ordering parts.

Replace the failed bulb to clear the Lamp Defective warning in the instrument cluster. Use the specified bulb type and wattage. Some LED replacements can trigger a bulb warning or flicker if they are not compatible with the W203 bulb monitoring system.

You will be able to replace the following: 

1. Brake Light / Stop Light Bulb ( Bulb type needed: P21W)
2. Turn Signal Light Bulb Lamp (Type needed: PY21W.)
3. Backup Lamp ( Light bulb type needed: P21W)
4. Tail, parking, standing (Light bulb type needed: R5W 5007)

Step-by-step instructions.

1. Turn off your lights. Allow the lamp and bulb to cool before handling them. Install a 12 volt bulb of the same type and wattage as the original.
2. Open the trunk.
3. Locate the taillight assembly with the burned-out or defective bulb. Fold the trim over.
4. Rotate the plastic locking tab 90 degrees to the vertical position.
   
5. Optional: Disconnect the wiring connector.
   
6. Remove the bulb assembly.
7. Locate the defective light bulb. Use the photo below to identify the failed bulb.
8. Press the bulb gently into the socket, turn it counterclockwise, and remove it.
9. Press the new bulb into the socket and turn it clockwise until it locks in place.
10. Reinstall the assembly by pushing it into place and locking it using the twist tab you unlocked before.
11. Push the trim cover back in place.
